Mentre molto è cambiato nei secoli, tanti altri aspetti non cambieranno mai:

prima di tutto l’atmosfera che si respira durante questo periodo; si crea un forte senso di comunità, che lega strettamente la condivisione tra persone con la vigna e la terra. La vendemmia non è un lavoro, ma un ritrovo comunitario.

La frenesia di raccogliere le uve mature il prima possibile per vinificare le uve al massimo della loro espressione, si mescola alle risate e alle chiacchiere avvolte dall’inebriante profumo dell’uva;

Il ciclo della natura, con il suo ritmo di crescita, maturazione e raccolta, è palpabile in ogni gesto.

E poi segue un altro momento magico, in cantina, con la pigiatura delle uve, che liberano l’inconfondibile profumo di mosto, che tutti noi associamo al vinoso “profumo di cantina”.

La fatica è tanta, ma mai superiore alla soddisfazione di un raccolto abbondante, profumato e sano.

Chi vendemmia è il primo a festeggiare la fine di una giornata di raccolto con un bicchiere del vino delle annate precedenti, creando un’alchimia che porterà ad un rinnovato vigore per la giornata successiva. In quel bicchiere è concentrato tutto il ciclo vendemmiale, la storia di quell’uva, terroir e passione.

Che la vendemmia abbia inizio!

Another year, another harvest: a new cycle! The grape harvest is a ritual deeply rooted in the cultural traditions of our country. You can already hear the creaking of tractors pulling carts loaded with grapes and the voices of the harvesters on hilltops.

While much has changed over the centuries, many things will never change:

First of all, the atmosphere during this period; a strong sense of community is created, tightly binding the sharing between people with the vineyard and the land. The grape harvest is not a job but a community gathering.

The rush to pick the ripe grapes as quickly as possible to vinify them at their peak blends with the laughter and chatter, enveloped by the inebriating scent of the grapes.

The cycle of nature, with its rhythm of growth, maturation, and harvest, is palpable in every gesture.

Then another magical moment follows, in the cellar, with the pressing of the grapes, releasing the unmistakable aroma of must, which we all associate with the vinous “cellar scent.”

The effort is huge, but never greater than the satisfaction of an abundant, fragrant, and healthy harvest.

Those who harvest are the first to celebrate the end of a day’s work with a glass of wine from previous years, creating an alchemy that brings renewed energy for the next day. In that glass are concentrated the entire harvest cycle, the story of those grapes, terroir, and passion.

La Scrapona 2021, oltre ad essere davvero buona, è il primo vino Marenco certificato biologico.

Il nostro percorso per arrivare qui è partito molto tempo fa, negli anni ’90 quando abbiamo deciso di puntare tutto sulla Sostenibilità. Scelta obbligata secondo noi, il vino è un piacere. Acquistando una bottiglia Marenco il cliente si aspetta un vino eccellente, tipico, piacevole e genuino.

Sentiamo fortemente questa responsabilità. Tutte le nostre scelte sono guidate dalla ricerca di piacevolezza e bontà, unita al rispetto delle risorse naturali ed umane che ci troviamo a gestire.

I primi passi li abbiamo fatti con la viticoltura integrata, bandendo le lavorazioni eccessive del terreno e minimizzando l’uso di pesticidi ed erbicidi.

Il terreno influenza molto le caratteristiche del vino, donando all’uva sostanza organica, sali minerali, acqua, sostanze azotate e altri fattori necessari. Il compito del viticoltore attento è garantire l’equilibrio tra ciò che la vite prende e ciò che il terreno è in grado di reintegrare. Serve competenza tecnica e conoscenza dei propri vigneti, che in Piemonte possono avere caratteristiche molto diverse anche in zone circoscritte.

Un’altra scelta molto importante è stata quella di salvaguardare il patrimonio genetico dei nostri vigneti. Ne è un’esempio la selezione massale fatta alla Scrapona sulle piante di moscato li presenti nel 1995, prima della sostituzione del vigneto.

Dal 2015, forti di un’esperienza trentennale sul fronte della viticoltura sostenibile, abbiamo avviato la conversione a biologico dei nostri vigneti. Siamo partiti con un solo vigneto, e poi man mano abbiamo messo in conversione l’intera superficie vitata della nostra azienda. Un passo alla volta, in stile piemontese perche la certificazione biologica è una tappa importante, ma fa parte di un percorso molto piu ampio che punta come dicevamo alla realizzazione di vini sempre piu buoni, sempre piu genuini, ad altissimo valore aggiunto e con un impatto positivo sul nostro territorio e sui suoi abitanti.

We will soon release Scrapona 2021

Scrapona 2021, besides being very good, is the first Marenco wine to be certified organic.

Our journey to get here started a long time ago, in the ’90s, when we decided to deeply invest in Sustainability. We had no choice, wine is a pleasure and our customers’ expectations are high, they want a bottle of wine which is excellent, typical, pleasant and genuine.

We feel and like this responsibility. All our choices are driven by the research of excellence and the respect of the natural and human resources we are called to manage.

Our first steps were taken towards an integrated viticulture, banning the turnaround of the soils and the intensive use of pesticides and herbicides.

The soil deeply influences the characteristics of a wine, soil gives to the grapes water, salts, organic matter, nitrogen and other useful elements. Our job is to grant balance between what the vines take from the soil and what the soil is able to reintegrate. It requires technical competence and a deep knowledge of the vineyards that in Piemonte can have very different characteristics, even within the same area.

Another important choice was to save the genetic heritage of the Scrapona vineyard, making a massal selection from the old vines before replacing the vines in 1995.

Since 2015, thanks to our long experience in Sustainable Viticulture, we started the conversion of our vineyards to Organic Certification. We started with one single vineyard, and then during the year we reached the conversion of the entire property . Step by step , Piedmont style, because the certification is an important milestone, but it is part of a wider picture that aims to make year by year a better wine, pleasant, genuine and with a positive impact on the land and its inhabitants.
